Even though the thermometer showed well over 30 degrees in the shade, quite a few Keil fans were not deterred from coming to Schwetzingen for the certification and the vernissage “Peter Robert Keil – primarily the line: painting, drawing, prints, majolica”. Even a journey of 800 kilometres was not too far for a collector couple from the far north. The couple reported enthusiastically on the consistently positive reactions that visitors to their home show to an extraordinary majolica figure. Peter Robert Keil made the devil figure in 2012 as part of an Artist in Residence programme at the Staatliche Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe. A number of works from that majolica creative period were also presented at this exhibition and were enthusiastically received by the public.
In Peter Robert Keil’s work, a duality between colour and line can be observed again and again. Often the colour is distributed freely, gesturally, gladly over a large area on the picture support, while graphic structures, drawn linearity or firmly defined outlines define the actual visual context. In the exhibition in the bright rooms of the Xylon Museum in Schwetzingen, the line-dominated side of the artist’s work will be highlighted in a specific selection and, in keeping with this, a series of graphics created especially in the Schwetzingen print workshop will be presented for the first time. There will also be an opportunity to talk to the artist, who has moved into a guest studio in Schwetzingen during the summer.
The exhibition is open until 31.08.2022, Saturday and Sunday from 15:00 – 17:00 or by appointment.
